Prince Harry made a particular remark about the late Queen Elizabeth that allegedly left royal staff "reeling" over his "breathtaking arrogance," a royal author has claimed. The Duke of Sussex sensationally quit the Royal Family in early 2020 and made several bombshell claims about his time within the Firm afterwards.
Harry, alongside his wife, Meghan Markle, gave a bombshell interview to Oprah Winfrey in 2021, when they talked about the hardships they had to face as working royals since their wedding. But it was another interview, the next year, that also left palace staff speechless, according to a royal author.
While in the Netherlands for his Invictus Games in April 2022, Harry gave an interview to Hoda Kotb on NBC's US morning show Today to discuss the event.
But the chat quickly turned into a conversation about the royals, with Harry mentioning his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.
The Duke revealed that the Sussex couple had briefly stopped in the UK on their way to the Netherlands and had a private tea.
He said that she was in "great form" after her then-recent bout of Covid and asserted his commitment to ensuring she was "protected and got the right people around her."
Harry even alleged that the late monarch would share secrets with him that she couldn't reveal to "anybody else."
But his comments infuriated the Palace after he appeared to imply that Elizabeth's other children and grandchildren were "excluded" from her confidence, according to a royal book.
Author Tom Bower wrote in his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors, which was released in July 2022: "Charles, Anne, William and all the Queen's staff, implied Harry, were inadequate for the task. He appeared to speak from the heart. It seemed Harry had resumed the war against his family. The 'olive branch' media headline about his visit to Windsor splintered.
"Predictably, Harry's assertion of his special status aroused accusations about his 'breathtaking arrogance' with 'no bounds to his self-delusion'. Responding to the public fury, Downing Street even issued a statement that the Queen was well-protected."
