Railway Journey Reschedule Rules: If your confirmed ticket was already booked and your plans have changed, you can travel on the same train on a different date without canceling the ticket.
Railway Journey Reschedule Rules: Millions of people travel by train every day in the country. The Railways operate thousands of trains for these passengers, ensuring everyone can easily reach their destination. However, sometimes travel plans change unexpectedly, forcing passengers to cancel their tickets. This wastes not only time but also money. To address this problem, the Indian Railways is implementing a new rule.
Under this, if your travel date changes, there will be no need to cancel your ticket. You will be able to travel on a different day on the same ticket. However, the Railways have set some conditions for this. Let us explain how this new rule will work and who will benefit from it.
Travel on a different date without canceling your ticket.
Indian Railways is preparing to make a major change to its ticket booking system. Passengers will now be able to reschedule their travel dates without canceling their tickets. For example, if you booked a train for November 20th and now travel on November 22nd, you can reschedule the same ticket. This feature will only be available on confirmed tickets booked through the IRCTC portal or app.
Currently, passengers have to cancel their tickets and book a new one, incurring a cancellation fee. The new rule will eliminate this hassle. However, if the train fare on the new date is higher, the passenger will have to pay the difference. This change will make the Railways' digital services even more flexible.
Relief for Passengers
This new rule could prove to be a major relief for passengers. People often have to change their travel plans due to an emergency, resulting in a 25 to 50 percent cancellation fee. In some cases, there's no refund. Now, the Railways plans to encourage passengers not to cancel their tickets but to update their journey dates.
This will save both time and money. However, it's not necessary that the same seat will be confirmed again on the new date. Tickets will be changed based on seat availability. Reports suggest that the Railways is considering offering partial refunds to passengers even if they miss a train. However, no official statement has been issued on this matter.
